Achievers

                    ACHIEVERS

I have been to institutions of learning where the graduating students are celebrated.
We were encouraged to eulogize their outstanding qualities that we would love to emulate and we often get the chance to present this piece during the graduation ceremonies. They were like victors coming back from an epic war, like conquerors who just won new colonies for their fatherland, like Nigerian footballers winning the world cup for the first time, l
Those that ended with a 2.2 draw (second class lower), those who beat the system narrowly on 2.1(second class upper), and of course a good number of those with flawless victory; first class graduate abound in their number even from the school system  hitherto notorious for not producing first class.
So much for academic achievement (well that is the primary yardstick), they are more than just intellectuals, how much for their sporting prowess, sense of innovation, entrepreneurship skill, political acumen and above all their high level of discipline.

By and large, they left us with legacies that can never be forgotten, they made and broke record  lest I forget to tell on the business minded ones who made so much profits on us and awakened the spirit of entrepreneurship in the school system  perhaps you havent heard of any program yet on self development, ventures, invest, no job out there, start earning while in school and so forth.
Why did I take the pain to write this, You may ask? Well, it is to call our attention to a malady in us youth of today: the craze for attention either negative or positive, one which unconsciously is eating us up.
We will do just anything to be noticed or be the one most talked about, like doing things awkwardly just to stand out, defame someone else to get famous, do nasty things on the internet to get likes or followers and all sorts.
Let us learn to celebrate other people rather than blow our own trumpet, when we pick the log in other peoples eyes let us do so with some amount of respect, not to spread lies and calumnies against other people for any reason and then there will be so much love in the air.
